Ode To The Summer Cold

I need my beauty sleep.

I lay me down upon my bed,
To seek a little sleep.
Begins the drip, begins the hack,
No rest – no dreaming deep.

It does no good, I cannot breathe,
Downstairs I go to find
Some solace from the toss and turn,
Diversion for my mind.

Coughing, spewing, bleary-eyed,
Upright, just snot and me,
At 2 am I find myself
Alone with QVC.

*Dedicated to my sister Lib, and all our fellow-sufferers, alone in the night with our Kleenex and our remote controls.  May we be breathing easier soon.

    I – achoo! – hear ya, sis! 🙂

  2. Jackie says:

Look on the bright side: sickness almost always leads to weight loss!

Seriously though, feel better. And kudos to you for writing a poem when you’re under the weather. Done in true dedicated blogger fashion.

  3. As the ad told us many years ago, “A summer cold is a different animal.” Get well soon.

  4. Tar-Buns says:

Poor Peg (and Libster)! Hope you shake the cruds soon. They are a huge bother in the warm weather. It seems I always get the cruds late spring, just before the end of the school year, so I can be miserable at graduation when I have to give an award speech.

Hang in there. Get well before this weekend or no kisses for you.:)

  5. egills says:

Get well soon…. it’s so unfair to have a cold in the summer.. I prescribe a large whisky / ginger / lemon and honey to help you feel better.

  6. Oh, I feel very badly for you, but you brightened our collective day with your little drippy-nosed ditty. Bravo to you for turning a yucky feeling into a funny post!

  7. pegoleg says:

Sending phlegm-coated thank yous your way (eeeeew!).

  8. MKC says:

Sorry to hear you are still not feeling well. Please wear a mask when you come to BC and maybe you should stay on the boat or with Lib!

  9. Libertarian says:

Peg, another thought about your photo above… you really need to consider laser hair removal… just a loving suggestion about your otherwise beautiful mug!

  10. Big Al says:

    Poor Peg-o-leg’s gotten quite wheezy
Not to mention a little bit sneezy
In an effort to cheer her
But still not get near her
I’m sending this limerick so cheesy.

(You blog better sick than most of us do well.)

  11. Tar-Buns says:

I am in awe, Big Al! Limerick in reply to a poetic verse. You guys rock! That’s why I hang out at this blogsite and check all the creative, cool comments!

Carry on, oh masters of the word!

  12. It’s just not fair to get a cold during the summer.

  13. Marija sKeri says:

I know how you feel. I still can’t get use to it on this UK weather changes. Now sore throat, constant headache, remote x 2, tea and juice & blanket…. I need proper summer!

  14. I can honestly say that this is the first time I’ve ever seen the word “snot” in a poem…made my day! Thanks for the giggle!

Hope you’re feeling better soon, Peggy!

I have a feeling Shakespeare is not turning in his grave, worrying about me as competition. High art, it ain’t.

I think I slept through the night last night, but woke up coughing so I can’t be sure. Thanks for the good wishes, Wendy.
