Freshly Pegged – Gone Fishin’

gonefishing

Not really. I hate fishing.

Summertime, and the livin’ is easy.
Fish are jumping, and the cotton is high.
Freshly Pegged, is gonna be on vacation.
But hush, little baby, don’t you cry.

You’re busy.  I’m busy. The faboo writers I usually feature are busy.  Rather than trotting out all that talent for a reading public that has gone on vacation, Freshly Pegged is taking the rest of the summer off.

Don’t misunderstand –  the Peg behind Freshly Pegged will still be around.  I’ll still be doing my thang. I’m just rolling up the welcome mat for guest bloggers for a little while.

I just found out Freshly Pegged was mentioned on The Daily Post today.  I’m thrilled!  Of course this WOULD be the day I announce this feature is taking a little holiday.

Awkward.

For today, since it’s been too hot to think around here lately, let’s revisit a seasonal favorite…

Ode To A Tree In Summer

The simple joys of nature.

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
While lying in a leafy glade
In summer’s heat, the blessed shade.

But when dog days get even hairier,
I long, instead, for Willis Carrier.
Cuz when the temp hits 103,
I’d rather chill with my A/C.

*Many heartfelt thanks to Willis Carrier, the inventor of the modern air conditioner.
Abject apologies to poet Joyce Kilmer, the author of “Trees”.

  1. It’s so overcast and rainy here. I wish it would be summer already, but I think this is what we’re gonna get this year.

  3. Canada seems to be in a constant state of wet. Hot and wet. Calgary was flooded out a couple of weeks ago. Toronto was flooded out Monday night. People being rescued by boat in subway systems. Crazy stuff. I woke up to rain outside again. Right now I see the sun. It might last an hour and 45 minutes. Who needs to go fishing just hang your pole out the window.
    Enjoy! 😉

I saw that on the news about Toronto – nuts! We haven’t had QUITE that much rain, but enough so it feels like you’re walking through a steamroom when you step outside. Enough already!

  4. You hate fishing? I can’t imagine why! Actually, my son is an avid fisherman and is on a fishing team in college! YES, they exist. They fish tournaments for big $$$ for the college. Who knew! Enjoy your R & R. 🙂

You’re kidding? I never heard of college level fishing. I’m sure there’s a ton of skill involved, but I lack the patience for that kind of delayed gratification.

I’m not R&Ring right now, just giving the hosting duties a little break.

  6. You deserve some R&R. But wait, you’re going to be SOOOO busy, traveling hither and yon!
It will be hectic but I know your trip will be FABULOUSO! (and I’m so jealous!)
See you at the next event, the wedding!

I’m trying to nail down some little details, like a place to STAY. No biggie. I’m getting a little nervous now – little over a week to go!

      • You didn’t get that place you were talking about last TH? Gosh, that is a necessity while traveling abroad. Don’t think you’d be very comfy in Hyde Park, although it is lovely. Not even sure if it’s close to where you’re going…
It will all work out. Not to worry!

  8. Hot and miserable here….and the clouds just slid over to others a bit of rain…even then not much.
Makes me very sleepy…the hum of the AC.
Hey! You need a decorative “Daily Post” badge now for the sidebar. (Somehow that DP mention is terribly funny…the universe is giggling)
Grab what summer you can – apparently the shelf life is short. The paper Sunday had Back to school ads.

I don’t think I can use the DP (giggle, giggle) badge for just a mention. I’m holding out for a full-on interview.

I just saw a back-to-school ad on TV last night – whaaa?? that’s just wrong.

  9. Although I’m new to your world, I think that one reason your energy is so good is because you know how to take a break. Enjoy every moment of your vacation! I look forward to your ramblings when you get back.

What? Not going away and not blogging? Seriously? How will I do without my fixes.

Congratulations on the Daily Post mention. But I think your poem will be a hit with the newbies, even if there is no Freshly Pegged post for today … can you just reroute to mine? 😉

See you at the wedding, indeed. Try not to get too stressed about it- it will be fab!

  15. Your verse did resonate. What with my home town Muscat in the eternal throes of 40 deg. C plus. I agree the AC is a great invention without which humanity could not have colonised the Arabian peninsula. But the technology does leave a large anti-Green footprint does it not?

    A Daily Post mention – sahhh-WEET!

ha ha ha Love the poem. We’re in the midst of a BRUTAL heat wave in Joi-sey, and yesterday I was on a teleconference where everyone had to name what they were grateful for. I was 6th on the list, and I couldn’t BELIEVE I was the first person to say, “AIR CONDITIONING.”

Then of course someone had to make a comment about how the power in our building would probably go out, because that’s what happens. (Bring it. Then I can leave early.)
