The athletes are trained.
The spectators have their cheers down pat.
There isn’t a pink t-shirt left to be had in the Windy City.
We’re ready…
for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer: Chicago!
It happens this weekend, June 1-2. Participants will start and end at Soldier Field. In between, they’ll tour the great city of Chicago, walking many miles to raise funds for breast cancer research.
My cousin Moe will be there with bells on. Well, I’m not sure about the bells, but there’s sure to be a catchy theme outfit involved. I told you about her last year, when she and her daughter Megan walked. They fund-raised their heads off so that this year, the entire family could participate; Moe, her husband Paul and their 3 daughters.
Moe’s a 9 year breast cancer survivor. Unfortunately, the cancer returned soon after last year’s walk. Although her body isn’t up to walking the whole route this time, her spirit will be running; flying through the course with her family like the champ she is.
A blogging friend, Susie at Susie Lindau’s Wild Ride, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She announced it in typical Susie fashion; with honesty and humor. Susie will undergo a double mastectomy today. Please join with me in sending prayers and good wishes her way for a successful operation and a smooth recovery.
My sister Mary Kay is a survivor – it was stage 1 and she’s doing fine now, thank God. (My sister Lib is holding her own against a brain tumor, but that’s a cancer for another day.)
I’m sure you know someone who has been affected by breast cancer. If you can afford to do so, go to the Avon website and donate. Or participate in a walk near you – they’re being held all over the country.
For everyone who is fighting this scourge, join with me now and raise your voice in a battle cry: CANCER, YOU CAN KISS MY ASS!
Cancer really can kiss all of my ass. And I have a huge ass, so it will probably take a while to get all of it. Might keep it busy, so that it will leave all of our friends and family alone!

They mostly focus on the lower forty. That’s where my history and the history of my family is. Perhaps if we combined genes, you and I the next generation would have two good halves!
But then I’m thinking, me and Peg, we’re both Irish. You know that it would work out the other way.

Ooh. I wasn’t suggesting we have children together. Not exactly. I meant cloning. Because while I do love you, Peg, you’re not my type.

FANS of Peg-o-Leg’s – just FYI
Spotted this on Pied Type’s blog recently..I don’t Tweet, but some of you do…..thought you might want to know:….just a little hint. HINT (big one)
“Note to WP bloggers: If you come across a WordPress post you think is worthy of being Freshly Pressed, tweet it to WP at @freshly_pressed. I’d been told there was no way to nominate a post, but today’s WordPress newsletter says: “Did you read something in the Reader that you think is Freshly Pressed material? Feel free to leave us a link, or tweet us @freshly_pressed.” I don’t understand where to leave that link, but I do know how to send a tweet (barely).”

Aw…aren’t you sweet? I must admit I haven’t yet figured out what Tweeting is all about. I keep saying to my 23-year-old daughter, “But WHY do people want to do that?” Now she just rolls her eyes at me. 🙂

Great post, Peg! We have great participation in the St. Louis Susan Komen race for the cure as well! Last year over 50,000 people participated to raise over 2.3 million dollars. It’s touching to see all the love and support in one group like that. Good luck to all those you’ve mentioned in your post, may they live long and prosper!

Thank you so much for writing this and for including me! I am glad to hear your sister is doing well! I will say a prayer for your sister with the tumor and your cousin. This is no picnic! It has been nearly 3 weeks and I still am not back to typing without pain. Stupid sentinel lymph nodes! Youch! I do know that soon this will all be a big blur.
I think that my amazing prognosis is because of you and everyone else who got the message out. Thousands prayed and they were answered. My Oncotype was around 26% after the biopsies, but the tissue sent to may showed it dropped to 13%!!!
I am very lucky to have a friend like you Peg!
Now let’s kick cancer’s ass!!!!
