Bloggy Shout Out

Peg-o-Leg courtesy of The Middlest Sister

Just had to give a bloggy shout out to Nicole over at The Middlest Sister.  She has just passed 5000 subscribers!  Whoo hoo! The sky’s the limit as far as I’m concerned when you’ve got mad talent like hers.

She brings stories of her childhood to life with unbelievably intricate pictures cut from paper.  You will not believe the emotions her magic scissors are able to generate.

I know I’ve none too subtly bragged (in an annoyingly gloating way) about occasionally cycling through WordPress’s recommended list of Humor bloggers, but that’s small potatoes.   Nicole’s blog is listed among the Staff Picks, which is their short list of blogs recommended as the best of all categories.  http://wordpress.com/#!/read/recommendations/

It’s like she’s in the permanent collection in the Louvre, with her own spot on the wall and postcards of her stuff on sale in the gift shop, while I’m hawking landscapes of the Seine to ugly Americans out front on the sidewalk.

In honor of her great accomplishment, Nicole crafted paper avatars of some of her commenters, and I’m beyond delighted to be included in the rogue’s gallery.  I (and the fluffy lamb I rode in on) have never looked better.

If you don’t know Nicole, hop on over right now.  Try to avoid being charmed out of your socks – just try.  Can’t be done.

My favorite avatar was the one she did of you. However, given some of the recent photos you have posted of yourself (specifically, the sparkly dress photo), I often (well, I wondered once) wonder why you chose that particular photo for your avatar?

That photo shows how fun-loving and spontaneous I can be, to just randomly hop on a child’s toy at the park for some fun-loving spontaneity. It took ages for my production crew to set up.

  2. Hahaha! Thanks for the shout-out 🙂 I’m a pretty terrible writer and can never be as funny or as elegant as all you wonderful writers. You guys make pretty words, and I love reading them. I’m glad I can pay you back with pretty pictures.

How nicely put! Tell you what…when you finally write that book, if you run out of real-life, hysterical events to depict, I’ll write some up for you.

  3. Yes, she is amazing! I loved all the avatars she did of everyone. Yours was perfect, just perfect! Congrats, Nicole, well deserved to have 5,000 followers. That’s incredible and to be in the Staff Picks, cream of the crop.

(and yes, I’m with worrywart…what’s the story behind yours, Peg? I’ve asked this before y’know….)

See my response to The Wart (affectionate nickname). I have noticed that my avatar, which represents me so faithfully throughout the blogosphere, appears nowhere on my own blog. I can’t figure out how to do that – any ideas, Darloopdiloopdiloo?

      • You mean slap your avatar on the side with a widgetawhatchamacallit? Or put it in your header? I think both would look fabulous. You definitely have to showcase the one Nicole made of you. (And I love the nickname Darloopdiloopdiloo. the best one you’ve dreamed up so far….)

Thanks for the technical guidance. I’m trotting off now to locate the widgetawhatchamacallits.

The only problem with your new nickname is I have to say it under my breath in order to get it right, so I’m sitting here like a doofus with my lips moving as I sound it out and type it. Hardly in keeping with my uber-sophisticated image. You know, the image I want to have? That one?

        • yeah, well, my eyes went cross trying to type it out correctly. And I was moving my lips at the same time. We are cut from the same uber-sophisticated cloth, my friend.

How cool, how cool, how cool!!! That creation holds way more street cred than being FP’d, Peg. You got an award from the people BY the people ….. not some man behind the curtain. This is real. REAL.
Seriously … the effort she put in to treat some of her subscribers is incredible. What a wonderful act of kindness, eh? Congrats, Peg!

Well, she SAID it was just a random pick of 50 commenters, but I know in my heart of hearts that she likes me better than all the other kids. Just like my mom.

Thanks Lenore – wasn’t that a great tribute to her readers? I’ll have to think of something equally great to do when I hit 5000. I’d better get working on that. Yup. Right, damn quick.

But, yes, Peg’s is the best one!

Oh I saw you, too. Angie. I think it is FABULOUS that she was able to craft your Gravatar. She really did knock her ‘thanks’ out of the park.

She also managed to leave me feeling like more of a loser. I mean, I’ve yet to be FB’d – and now, now I’m missing out on being ‘felted’. Woe is me.

It’s a crying shame, Lenore! So not fair. I swear though, if you hang with Peg, it’ll happen. Everything she touches turns to Freshly Pressed.

Oh Lenore, Lenore. My post tomorrow is a pathetic confession of my own insecurities. When will we learn that the post only LOOKS greener on someone else’s blog?

I’ll go check out her blog right now, thanks for the pointer-oo. I wasn’t aware the WordPress Gods had a secret list of the uber-spectacular. Maybe I’m on the Ultra, Top Secret list…? The ones not even they know about? Yeah. that one. And congrats on her pegging you in that image. Very cool.

    True story.
    So I have that memory.
    Which is nice.
It was a bit lop-sided, though. In all fairness.

Great plug, Peg. I agree about everything you said. I’d go so far as to say that Nicki is the most talented person I’ve run across in the blogosphere; she’s 100% unique and that’s why I’m betting she’ll go places.

Just obsessively checked the Recommended Humor Blogs because I always imagine I’ve been kicked off and, instead, our blogs are side by side right now. Can we take a moment, here? Hmmm? I’m deeply moved.
