Friday Folderol

Howdy folks!

Just a few little items before we break for the weekend.

1) WordPress has something messed up with their Reader function which lists new posts for subscribed blogs.   Some blogs have totally dropped of my list in the last month, some blogs show up intermittently, and a couple of days ago the function stopped working entirely.  I’ve checked on the Support forums and this is a problem that lots of bloggers are having.  It might be a problem with Explorer because it seems those who use Firefox are not affected.  I assume that the Knights of the WordPress Roundtable are hard at work on this, and it will be fixed soon.

In the meantime, I don’t have any notice of who is posting what.  If I haven’t stopped by to say hi, don’t worry – it’s not me, it’s them.

2) My friend Jules over at Go Guilty Pleasures will be 30 on Monday.  What a baby – I’ve got shoes older than that!  As part of the birthday celebration she is having a competition: describe your guilty pleasure and win a fabulous prize basket.  You can trot on over and enter if you like, but I wouldn’t waste your time.  I aim to get me that basket – Chocolate Covered Bacon is my middle name!  No, really.  I had it legally changed.  It was kind of hard to fit the new monogram on my towels, but it was worth it.

3) My friend Katy over at k8edid is also having a competition – this one is a writing competition.  A writing competition – what a great idea!  Hmmm…where have I heard of that before? (hint, hint, right hand column, hint, hint)

Katy has a really great idea – a series of posts on each of the deadly sins.  The first theme is Gluttony and the first batch of entrants was posted the other day, including the modest offering of your humble correspondent.  (That’s me, by the way, in case the “humble” adjective confused you.)  Go check out all the great entrants!

4) Caption contest fame and glory over at the Good Greatsby’s blog continues to elude me, so you don’t need to go over there for anything.

If you want to know which blogs are the bestest, just follow me around the blogosphere like a mad stalker and read what I read.  Just be sure to return to my blog constantly (almost to the level of obsessively, but just short of me having to call the authorities) and love my stuff a lot.

Have a great weekend y’all – have fun and be safe!

HEY- late breaking complaining to go with #1 above.  Where did “Comments I’ve Made” go as a choice in the header?  Now I’m TOTALLY separated from all y’all with no way to find my way back.  WordPress is cutting me off from the herd – I’m probably headed for the bloggy slaughter house!!!

It’s not me, it’s them? I’ll bet you used the old “it’s not you, it’s me” mantra when you broke up with your boyfriends too. C’mon Peg, man up (or whatever you gals do when it’s crunch time). If you’re breaking up with me, be up front about it. Don’t worry about my low self-esteem or tendency toward depression….I can handle it. I’ll finish this later, I’m late for my therapy session……

I don’t think there’s a really effective equivalent of “man up”, unless it may be “put on your big-girl panties”. It might seem just a tad creepy if YOU would say that.

You know, I’ve wondered if WordPress sends a notice when somebody unsubscribes as well as when they subscribe. Must increase the level of compulsive scrutiny of my own stats.

  6. On one hand, WordPress has some very innovative and cool ideas, and they are always trying to create new and better ones. (to make certain that we become hopelessly addicted to spending ALL our time here, until our ISP shuts us off for nonpayment, long after the spouse and kids are gone)

On the other hand, WordPress is like a hyperactive little boy who can’t sit still, can’t stop causing us trouble, and can’t ever leave well enough alone, constantly going around and breaking things by taking them apart, when these things were working just fine.

A happy medium somewhere in between the two personality extremes of WordPress would make me a lot happier. Moderation in innovation, without repeatedly screwing things up…

So thanks Peg, for the 411 on the latest, and some direction on where to find some cool blogs. And of course I’ll always return here to your blog and stalk you, if that’s what you’re into – without crossing that fine line between you enjoying my attentions, and having to take out a restraining order on me. Lol 🙂

  7. I’ve been having issues on and off for months now with blogs I’m subscribed to. And to make it worse, when I stop getting posts from a blogger, my brain cells rejoice that there is one less item to retain. Weeks/months will go by and I will then read a comment they wrote on another blog and think, “Oh wow, right, I haven’t been getting anything from them.” I am in awe of all the bloggers who run a three ring circus on their blogs, in addition to actually writing.

I know what you mean about the brain cells rejoicing – all this bloggy talent creates mountains of awesomeness that must be climbed. Sometimes it’s overwhelming!

I was so bummed that Elise went home on American Idol last night. But her feet are firmly set on the path toward fame and fortune I’m sure, now that everybody knows how talented she is!

  9. I have a lot of issues but they have nothing to do with WordPress. I have ringing in my ears, my joints hurt when the weather changes and don’t get me started about how often I have to get up and go to the bathroom at night. But, I digress. My WordPress seems fine. All six of my followers are still there. All joy in all things Ms Oleg. HF

Okay, walkingpapers, I love your blog and your writing so I suppose you could borrow my jacket for the weekend. Especially if it’s your size (by the way, I’m working on that! Sure, I’m eating tacos and drinking beer right now but I’m working on losing weight as soon as this meal is finished) Although I was just getting ready to head out on the town with the hubby tonight and now what will I wear?!

I would love to send you a beer or two, Peg. When are we going to get together for drinks anyway? Seems if you can put together a Reese’s coup, you could orchestrate a WordPress Blogger Convention. I’d be willing to fly anywhere (and I’ll bring the jacket)

Yes, I’ve had this problem with the WordPress reader — both getting my posts to appear and finding my blog reads in there. I’m sure they’ll get it straightened out soon since a lot of us are dealing with it.

So can I use that as an excuse for not reading blogs? I’m so backed up on my reading and I hope you and the others know I still have nothin’ but love for ya. Love and Circus Peanuts. I got plenty of those too. Happy weekend, Peg!

My real-life busy consists of scrubbing poop stains out of potty chairs and taking boogers to the trash so they don’t end up stuck to furniture. I don’t think anyone needs to be jealous of my type of busy! And, with that, I’m opening a bottle of beer as we speak. Now that you can be jealous of. Cheers, Peg!

    3) I wrote an entry and it turned into more ‘envy’ than ‘gluttony’ so I will have to wait for that part of her contest. I am all tapped out with this writing bidnezz lately.
    4) I am at zero percent in Paul’s contest this week. A new record! I feel so proud!

At least you’re a finalist. Every. Friggin. Week. I can’t even figure out how to get over to Paul’s blog (to vote for you, natch) since my Reader is broken and Mr. Busy Pants never bothers to stop by and spread some love on this-here blog anymore. I even went to the main page to see if I could do a search by blog name, but couldn’t find anywhere to do that.

You have been a busy little beaver with all the writing lately. Take a rest, have a relaxing evening with the family, and hit it big next week. Great weekend back at you!

      • Oh! So it’s YOU who votes for me? This explains a lot. Usually I snag at least one of the pity votes. So now I’m sitting up there with a big fat goose egg. But that’s okay. Somebody’s gotta lose and it’s always me. Yeah, I am very disappointed to find out that Mr. Busy Pants has an actual life. No love on my blog either. How am I supposed to keep up with these bloggers if I can’t lazily click on their links on my own blog? That’s fine though, I’m too busy sitting here along with Angie on a Friday night, scrubbing poop stains and boogers. Living on the edge like always….

Enjoy your visit with your daughter Peg! I am having a glass of wine in about five seconds…yippee!!

As for the Comments I’ve Made business, all I can find is the little orange number in the menu bar at the very top. It shows who’s responded to comments and posts, liked a post, etc., but not all the comments we make. Grr. The only way I’m sure I don’t miss my subscriptions is by the emails I get about post notifications.

I agree about the hyperactive kid comment. They’re always dinking with stuff that works fine and I still can’t embed an MP4 song off one of my CDs. That’s just not right.
