Little Gratitude: A Guest Post

Today I am privileged to be guest posting over at the blog of oh, so talented writer/blogger Deborah Bryan at The Monster In Your Closet.

Deborah’s writing is clear and compelling as she talks about life with her adorable son and loving partner, her struggles in her youth and with the death of her mother, her passion for the rights of others…all this combines to make her a woman worth knowing.  Not only that, she leavens all this serious stuff with a decent helping of true goofiness, so you know that got me on board.   I first met Deb when her hysterical post about read-walking was Freshly Pressed.

Deborah has an ongoing series of posts titled “For This I Am Thankful” and I am humbled to have been asked to contribute.

My offering, “Little Gratitude“, is far from my usual tongue-in-cheek giggle-fest, so I’m feeling a bit exposed with my heart laid bare for all to see.

Please go visit Deborah’s blog and read my post.  Then, make a cup of hot chocolate (fat-free), put on your jammies, snuggle down in a comfy chair and stay to check out Deb’s brain and the offerings of all the other wonderful FTIAT contributors.  I am honored to be in their company.

I went, I read, I commented. It was a side of you we rarely see – but it was oh so elegant and heartfelt. Thanks for sharing that side of you.

Thanks so much. Posting that feels like standing in the middle of the food court at the mall, wearing nothing but your Naughty Maid outfit with all the cutouts – kind of exposed. I’m such a doofus that I tear up just reading and remembering some of those moments, especially now that my kids are grown. I know that you share some of those feelings, right?

Oh, I do share those. It has been very therapeutic for me to, um, stand in the Food Court from time to time and lay bare my, um, soul. I would much prefer to spend my writing time churning out fluff and nonsense, but there are times when the rest demands to be heard, as well. You did good, sister.

Speaking of “humbled,” that’s a perfect description of how I felt while reading this post . . . through eyes that were not entirely dry. Or, if I’m honest, not even a little dry.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful words on my blog, and brightening my day with the ones you’ve posted here.

(Also for that one comment over on the blog. The one that made me feel very happy I wasn’t drinking anything when I read it. I think you know which one!)

Thanks for providing a forum for such an important topic. I need to remind myself to stop and count my blessings every day, and stop worrying so much about stuff.

Peg, your post was excellent. I try very hard to notice the little things – and I love being caught off guard by the little things, while scurrying through life. (Like your moment of bounding down the stairs and stopping suddenly.) The memory of the fireflies and your kids gave me chills. I love the fact that my boys are still fascinated by such things. (Me, too.)
    Yep, beautiful post. Thank you.

Peg, I loved your Little Gratitude post. I’ve posted recently on appreciating the beauty in life, but you are so much more eloquent. Thanks for giving us a glimpse of your beautiful heart.
