SAD, Mad and Lonely

Dim, dingy, drab

Dank, despairing

Gloomy, glowerous

Misty, murky

Inky

Somber, stygian

Dark.  Dark.  Dark.

At 5pm, I fall back into a world from which all light and laughter have been sucked.

If I don’t see some DAYLIGHT soon, there will be no SAVING my sanity in TIME.

I’m just fine! I just hate coming out of work when it’s dark outside. I was hoping to be funny as well as depressed, but I think it came down on the side of gloomy.

You go ahead and Be True to yourself. If you feel rotten, some of us will “get you” because we don’t like spending most our lives now in darkness, either!. I have a very brief window each day to get out door work done, and here we are again…the duldroms of winter.

  3. It is depressing. I remember once when I worked at a job with 10 hour days, I’d drive to work in the dark, stay inside all day, then drive home in the dark. I felt like a vampire…walking dead. On my days off, the sunlight would be blinding.

When the darkness gets me down, I just tell myself to hold on until Dec. 21st then the days start sloooowly getting longer again.

I had a job like that once. My cubicle was in the middle of a big building, so I didn’t have access to any windows and never saw the sun. That would be a perfect job for the undead, now that you mention it.

As I said to Public Works earlier this week…. pre-kids, I hated the time change. Coming home from work in the dark was depressing. However, with kids, the time change is wonderful. The boys go to bed at 7pm without a whine or whimper. You just can argue with a word like ‘dark’. (smile)

Still, I know what you mean. It is challenging to be ‘up’ when the sunlight is gone.

That is the only good thing about this. I remember being a kid and having to go to sleep in the summer when it was still light. To add insult to injury, we could hear the other neighborhood kids playing outside, right under our bedroom windows. Unfair!

I hate it too. And it is only going to get worse before it gets better.

I’m waiting for someone to point out how bad they have it way up north where it’s dark for months at a time.

I’m up north, but not so far north that is dark for months at a time. It is only dark for 14 hours a day right now – which won’t make you feel any better, and sure doesn’t do much for my mood… except it gives me an excuse to ramp up my chocolate consumption.

  8. Don’t hate me…I LOVE this time of year. It makes me happy to have it dark. I’ll save you the trouble of asking: yes, I can see my reflection in a mirror, so I’m not a vampire. 😉

I love fall weather, but I do wish it would stay daylight just a bit longer.

Tell me again why we have to go through this twice a year? At least in the fall we gain an hour, and I can actually make it to my 6am water aerobics class.

Yeah, but what about those of us who hit the gym at 5pm? The place is packed after work now, because nobody has anything else to do in the dark. I don’t wanna even go anymore, because I want to go home and BAKE and EAT and HIBERNATE in front of my TV.

    Maybe.

  14. I have the same reaction every year when it starts to get dark earlier and earlier. It really starts to affect my motivation and happiness when I don’t get enough sunlight or spend enough time outdoors. I seem to make this discovery again every year like it’s a big surprise.

Ulgh, I feel you, Peg! I HATE when it’s dark out at 5pm. I’m usually okay until January, then there are no holidays to look forward to and it seems like it’ll never end!

Even my cats hate it as much as I do. They have an earlier curfew, so they aren’t vulnerable to wildlife such as rabid raccoons, nutria, feral cats and oh yea, the occasional gator.

My cat is not allowed out because she doesn’t have the front claws. She’s always trying to make a bolt for freedom and when successful, she just stands on the deck meowing, clueless as to what to do.

I know what you mean – it’s dark when I get up in the morning, it’s just about light when I get to work ( at the moment ) and it’s dark by 4pm. Infact it’s been so dark and dreary that my solar powered lights haven’t built up enough energy to work properly!
